A fire broke out at the Wawaloam Campground store on Thursday, June 9th around 7:00pm on Gardiner Road in Richmond, RI. The cause of the fire is still unknown but it could have possibly been caused by a lightning strike near a propane tank which then caught fire. Hope Valley-Wyoming Firefighters responded as mutual aid to Carolina-Richmond along with several other fire departments including West Greenwich, Exeter, South Kingstown, Charlestown, Westerly. The fire kept firefighters busy until the early hours of the morning. The bulk of the fire remained in the second story, which is were the propane tank was located. There were campers staying at the campground but no one was hurt, including firefighters. The building inspector and Fire Marshall were called in to investigate. |
